Holidays in Stockholm
Thinking of a holiday destination? Then fly to Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden. Stockholm is one of the most enjoyable plays to go on holiday in all of Europe. The people are very warm, open and friendly. The city itself is beautiful, full of waterways and green spaces. Perhaps no other city in Europe is as clean and green as Stockholm. The following is a guide to all of the great things to see and do on holiday in Stockholm.
The layout of Stockholm is very interesting. The city consists of 14 islands that are linked together by a network of bridges over Lake Mälaren. This large lake flows into the Baltic Sea. Though the city spans a vast geographic area, the majority of attractions for tourists are found in the city center of Sweden, what the locals call “innerstaden.”
Getting around Stockholm is very easy for visitors. The public transportation in Stockholm is fantastic. There is an extensive network of subways, light rail trains, trams, ferries and buses. All of these are part of the same system, meaning that one card can be purchased for use on all the public transportation options in Stockholm.
There are so many things to see and do in Stockholm that it is impossible to list them all. The museums are amazing, and there are over 70 of them to visit. The National Museum and the Museum of Modern Art have extensive art collections. The Museum of History is a popular attraction. Also, there is a combined open air museum and zoo in Stockholm, Skansen.
Another popular activity for visitors is a boat tour. There is an Under the Bridges of Stockholm Tour that shouldn’t be missed. It goes out on the Baltic Sea and Lake Mälaren, as well as passing by the Royal Castle during its two hour journey.
Swimming is very popular in Stockholm. During the summer months, the beaches do a thriving business. There are several beaches in the innerstaden, and the water is so clean that people can drink it. There are also a number of outdoor and indoor pools, as well as some spectacular spa experiences.
The food in Stockholm is okay, but where it really shines is its coffee bars. There are a number of different ones to choose from, and they range from cheap, local joints to overpriced chains. The cheap joints have better coffee and ambience.
A holiday in Stockholm makes for great memories. The best time of year to visit is summer, but the residents are warm and welcoming anytime of the year.
